Purebred Standard Poodle Siba walked away with the honor of Best in Show at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden.
But rescue dogs had their own moment in the spotlight the same weekend as Westminster with the third annual American Rescue Dog Show competing for Best In Rescue, with the winner picking up a cool $25,000 for their rescue organization.
The top honor is Best in Rescue, but there are other equally compelling titles, including Best in Couch Potato, Best In Underbite, Best In Special Needs and even Best in Snoring, among others! Each of the subcategory winners picks up $5000 for their rescue organization.
Many people don’t realize that a full twenty-five percent of all dogs who enter shelter are purebred. So, the American Rescue Dog Show is also open to all dogs; purebred, mixed breed and even dogs with disabilities are welcome to compete.
The 2020 Winner is Howard The Dog, a pit bull and basset hound mix. Howard advanced to the final round as he was the winner in the “Short N Sweet” category, for dogs who are short in height but big in sweetness.
The American Rescue Dog Show is hosted on The Hallmark Channel.
