Breed Spotlight – Boxer

One of America’s most popular breeds, the playful and affectionate Boxer is great with children and makes a wonderful family pet.

Their naturally muscular bodies with their sleek, short coats give them the appearance of the athletes they are. Their wrinkled foreheads and bright, curious eyes make the Boxer a very attractive breed indeed.

Boxers, along with some other breeds tend to be more “one person dogs” than others, including English Bulldogs, Collies, Beagles, French Bulldogs, Golden and Labrador Retrievers, Yorkshire Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and German Shepherds.

Boxers are wonderful with children and they become serious watchdogs and guardians for the family. Be sure to give them plenty of exposure to other animals and a variety of people when they are young, as this brings out the best in them as they grow up.

Male Boxers can stand a full 25 inches at the shoulder and weigh up to eighty pounds with females weighing about 15 pounds less than the males. With their muscular bodies, they move with grace and speed and are beautiful to watch. Fearless, intelligent and energetic, they are wonderful companions for both individuals and families.
