How To Teach Your Dog To Lie Down

First of all a little grammar refresher, as we don’t want to hear about you teaching your dog bad grammar! So for the record, it’s “lie” down, not “lay” down.

Ok, so let’s get started.

Get a treat that your dog really loves and have your dog sit. Then place the treat close to your dog’s nose so he can smell it. But be careful to not hold it so close that he can grab the treat from your hand!

Now begin to lower the treat down toward the floor, keeping your hand close to your dog’s chest.

Once he lies down, give him the reward and praise him.

Then repeat the sequence and as he successfully completes the action, then add the verbal cue “down” as your dog lowers himself.

That’s it! Next time we’ll teach your dog to shake.
