How To Choose The Best Bed For Your Dog

With sleep in dogs accounting for twelve to fourteen hours out of each twenty four hour day, a good dog bed is important! You want a comfortable place for your canine companion that doesn’t involve him having to curl up on a hard floor.

Here are some things to consider when choosing a bed for your dog:

As dogs become older, it’s not uncommon for them to develop joint problems such as hip dysplasia and arthritis as well as other problems. A good dog bed will not only cushion your dog’s joints, but will provide the support your dog needs to provide pain relief.

Puppies also need joint support to get the rest they need to grow and thrive. Also, older dogs, larger breeds and puppies need more sleep than other dogs and a good quality, supportive dog bed will go a long way in helping them to get just that.

As in humans, a good night’s sleep helps to consolidate memory and improves learning. This makes training and learning of commands more effective and pleasurable for both your dog and you.

Dogs, like their wolf ancestors, are den animals. This means they crave a place of their own, a special spot where they can just get away from household activity and relax. A comfortable dog bed placed in a low traffic area, or even in his crate, provides this.

When picking out a bed for your dog, be sure to get one that is appropriate for your dog’s size. There’s nothing worse than seeing a large dog trying to curl up in a bed that’s clearly too small for him.

Be sure to choose a dog bed that is itself washable and easy to clean with a washable removable cover. This will keep any odors and germs cut to an absolute minimum and makes the bed much more comfortable for your dog.
