How To Keep Your Dog Smelling Good

If you have an adult dog, don’t you sometimes wish you could go back to when he was little, just to enjoy that warm puppy smell one more time?

Sadly that’s not possible unless you get another pup. So what can you do to keep your adult dog smelling good?

Of course it goes without saying that you dog should be getting bathed regularly. Most professionals recommend that you bathe a dog with normal skin about once a month. Too much, and you risk drying out his skin and irritating it.

So what do you do in between?

One of the simplest and most effective ways to keep your dog smelling fresh is to brush him regularly. Regular brushing removes dirt, allergens, and dander and distributes natural oils over his coat, keeping it shiny and fresh.

You can also elect to use a no rinse shampoo, sometimes called dry shampoo, made especially for dogs in between baths if he is especially dirty.

Be sure to keep his bedding clean and his bed should be washed regularly. Check the label to see if the interior cushion can be washed as well.

You should also be feeding your dog a high quality, nutritious dog food. Great nutrition will keep your dog healthy and smelling good.

And one other thing. Don’t neglect your dog’s oral care. Unless he is resistant to it, brush his teeth daily using a toothpaste formulated especially for dogs. Never use human toothpaste on your canine companion as they contain ingredients that can make them ill.
