Which Dog Breeds Are The Fastest?

Many dog breeds were developed for hunting as well as racing, so the need for speed was paramount. Here are the five fastest dogs:

Greyhound – These sleek racers can run up to an astounding 45 miles per hour! But as much as they love to run, they actually make quite calm canine companions at home.

Saluki – These speedsters were developed in the Middle East for hunting prey on the run. They are quite active, so owners need to provide them with a large fenced in yard in which to run.

Afghan Hound – Don’t let the elegant appearance of these beautiful dogs fool you, as they are fast! They also happen to be one of the oldest dog breeds on record.

Vizsla – These sleek dogs were bred to hunt and are excellent runners.

Whippet – These small fast dogs are descendants of the Greyhound and have been clocked at 35 miles per hour. For their size, they are one of the fastest breeds.
