Here are some really interesting facts about dogs that are unusual, factual and fun:

Unlike humans, dogs do not have an appendix.

Dogs can make about ten different vocal sounds.

Amazingly, dogs can make one hundred different facial expressions but most of these are made with the ears.

Dogs are not color blind. They see shades of green and gray and blue and yellow.

Most dogs only sweat from their paw pads and use panting to cool down in hot weather. The exception to this is the Chinese Crested, who has sweat glands in their skin as well as in the paw pads. 

The dog was one of the very first animals to be domesticated by people. Our relationship with dogs goes back over 10,000 years.
